A Walk Along The Jubilee Path, Kippford to Rockcliffe

We made the most of the good weather this week, with a lovely walk along the coast between Kippford and Rockcliffe.

Some images from along the route. [Please click on a photo to see a larger version.]

Lunch was at the Loch Arthur Restaurant, with attached Farm Shop. Always a pleasure to eat and shop here. The food is fresh and wholesome and delicious! I ate the 'dipping platter': three dips with crudites, salad and tortilla chips; gluten free orange polenta cake and a large mug of coffee. Rob had the chickpea burger 'dish of the day', coffee cake and coffee. Highly recommended :o)

Kippford to Rockcliffe Coastal Walk

Rob, Brock and I went on a scenic coastal walk today, between Kippford and Rockcliffe (and back!).

There is a similar walk on the Walk Highlands website, here.

Kippford Marina

There is a nice little gift shop that sells Cream O' Galloway ice creams, called Ark. I can also recommend the onion marmalade that they sell here. I bought some on a previous visit and it was delicious. A good stop-off on your way through the village!

Rockcliffe Beach July 2013

The grounds of one of the houses near to the shore at Kippford is populated with strange little creatures made from decorated rocks, shells and driftwood. Shown above are some of my favourites.

We drove on to New Abbey for lunch at the Abbey Cottage Tea Room. We were able to sit in the garden with Brock, while we enjoyed jacket potatoes for lunch: mine with cheese and coleslaw and Rob's with vegetarian haggis. With a mineral water and a green tea, the bill came to around £14. Good value and nice food.

Rockcliffe and New Abbey Trip

Henry (dog), Rob (my husband) and I enjoyed an outing to Rockcliffe in Dumfries and Galloway this week.

Rockcliffe is a pretty village with a beach, art gallery, café and hotel.

We took a walk along the shore to Castlehill Point, from where you get wonderful views across the Solway to Cumbria.

The weather was clear and sunny and the scramble over the beach and through a field up to the point was very enjoyable. The walk is about a couple of miles long in total, and is over uneven ground, requiring good walking shoes.

Rob took this photo of a gorse bush on the beach.

On the way home, we stopped at Abbey Cottage – a gift shop and restaurant next to Sweetheart Abbey in New Abbey.

I ate a ploughman’s lunch made with local cheeses; fresh, crunchy salad; chutney; and good, wholemeal bread and butter.

Rob had a jacket potato with vegetarian chilli and salad garnish.

For pudding, I had caramel shortbread ice cream, made by a local company, Cream O’Galloway.

Rob had the sticky toffee pudding.

Everything was superb, including the tea and coffee, and friendly service. Highly recommended.
